Getting ideas
In our brief we have to make a game under the theme “The world will end in 5 minutes. Our team had many ideas one of them was to be a zombie apocalypse game. We had many ideas how we could make a zombie games and we looked at similar type of games such as
- Dying Light
- The Last of us
- The Walking Dead
- Dying Light
- The Last of us
- The Walking Dead
Making The Start/Pause Menu/Timer
- The first thing a player sees in any game is a menu. This “face” of a game is what gives him the opportunity to feel the atmosphere of a game from the very first seconds. Our group decided to make a Start and a pause menu to the game by using Scripts.
- In this picture is the pause screen, I have created it, and it can be accessed by pressing the ESCAPE Button
- In the right hand corner is the timer, One of our group members have coded the timer to when it reaches 0 the game will end.

Making the player
When I was creating the player at first I was thinking of making it in 2D using sprites, but it was a big struggle for me because I couldn’t get the bone animations to rig correctly so then I decided to use 3D instead, by using a software called blender I was able to make a low poly character and it looked great but I also had to animate it inside of blender witch I wasn’t experienced with so I then I decided to get a asset from the unity store.
I also wanted to make the player into a third person game where he/she could explore its surroundings to find objects e.g. a key, but I didn’t like the end results because it would get past 5 minute timer. So I decided to make it a first person shooter game. we decided to find a player in the unity assets store, we found a first person shooter asset in the store so we decided to use that one

Making the Zombies
Just like the player i got the zombie asset from a online source called Mixamo. We found really cool zombie designs there and we could use it in our game, Mixamo also has a cool feature that allows any model to be animated so we got 3 animations, the idle, running and attacking.
Zombie script
Once I had the player done I then made a whitebox scene where I could do some trial and error for the enemies
In the picture the zombie does not move or attack so I had to make a script to make it follow the player by using unitys NavMeshAgent and triggers to make the zombie to Run towards the player and attack. When the attack animation is triggered a image will show on the display telling the player has been damaged.
Making the Environment
When our group brainstormed to make this game we wanted to make it look isometric, we thought it would look cool but as we progressed the project looked really weird and the player movement weren’t really good with this view. Making the environment was very difficult for me as well. I was using unity pro builder to make a few buildings and they looked good. I also wanted to make different houses and other stuff in pro builder but that would take a really long time to make in such short amount of time so our group decided to get low poly assets from the unity store.
