Been busy working on my dissertation and a new game concept, so I hope this one is better than the last

Current Work:

This week, I was thinking to myself what type of game I would play the most, and I started to remember when I used to play the PSP and PS2  games like Jak and daxter, Rachet and clank and many more. Then, I settled on making a game inspired by these platformer games.  

Game Description

The  game resolves around Lyo and Auri who protect Crystalia from its enemies. uncover the secrets of the Guardians. Utilize unique wing-based abilities for platforming while exploring and discovering hidden treasures, puzzles through echolocation.

Key Features

  • Glide, Wall climb
  • Engaging Combat System
  • Face off against plague bats and other enemies with weapon attacks.
  • Stylised and Diverse Environments
  • Echolocation Mechanics Tap into your bat-like nature with the ability to use echolocation, revealing hidden objects and enemy locations. This adds a layer of strategy and puzzle-solving to exploration.
  • Mystic LuminOrb Collectible Inspired by the Precursor Orbs in Jak and Daxter, collect Mystic Shards, glowing remnants of the ancient Guardians of the realms. These shards unlock upgrades and hidden secrets, rewarding exploration and mastery of mechanics.
  • Side Characters

Lyo(You, the player) and your sidekick Auri must protect the valley against the plague bats while uncovering the mysteries of the divided factions and their ancient ties to the Mystic Shards and discovering why they are attacking

Meet side characters who will help you on your journey and uncover the secrets of the guardians.

GAME MECHANICS.

Game Goals

To beat the level, the player has to go through platforming obstacles, using the player's unique ability to use his wings for platforming and combatting.

 Story/Settings

Set in a fantasy world the player embarks on a journey to discover the secrets of the guardians of Crystalia. The world includes two biomes, such as the plague lands and the  crystalia

Keyboard example controls:

  • WASD: Movement
  • Space: Jump
  • Left Mouse Button: Attack
  • Right Mouse Button: Special/secondary attack or interact (e.g., echolocation).
  • Mouse Movement: Camera control
  • Mouse Scroll Wheel: Zoom in/out (optional feature).

Gamepad example controls

  • Left Stick: Movement
  • A (or Cross): Jump
  • X (or Square): Attack
  • B (or Circle): Interact or secondary action (e.g., echolocation).
  • Right Stick: Camera control

Game Camera

  • Third-Person View: with unity, the Cinemachine camera follows the character, adjusting smoothly during platforming and combat to provide the best view.
  • Rotates fluidly around the player to provide optimal angles during exploration and combat.
  • Adjustable sensitivity and inversion settings for player preference.

Core Mechanic

  • The player's goal is to complete each level by platforming, defeating enemies, and uncovering secrets.
  • Glide across long gaps using wing-based abilities.
  • Climb walls to reach higher areas.
  • Engage in melee combat with quick attacks and combos.
  • Use wing-based moves for crowd control
  • Use echolocation to reveal hidden enemies, hidden objects, and secret areas.
  • Discover hidden paths and treasures scattered throughout the levels.
  • Collect glowing shards that serve as currency for upgrades and unlock new abilities..

With the struggles of learning Unreal Engine from scratch, I told myself I that I wasted time and that I would go back into Unity and start implementing C# Scripting to make a playable prototype

 

Unique Selling Point:

I haven't figured out the unique selling point, but when I do I will surely talk about it

 

My progress and goals for next week:

Start implementing these ideas into unity as I said in the last blog
